Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga
We teach traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga, following the method taught at the SYC institute in Mysore, India.

What is Mysore-style?

It’s a self-paced practice in a group setting, where students receive personalized guidance and adjustments from the teacher. Adjustments are optional and always respect the student’s preferences.

How it Works:

In practice, the Ashtanga Yoga Mysore method involves these key steps:

  1. Self-paced practice: Students begin at their own level, memorizing the sequence of poses (asanas) from the Primary Series onwards. They move through the postures at their own rhythm, guided by their breath.
  2. Guided by the teacher: A teacher offers individual adjustments, corrections, and encouragement. They help students refine their practice, ensure proper alignment, and provide support tailored to each student’s needs.
  3. Focus on breath and movement: Practitioners connect breath with each movement, maintaining a steady flow. The breathing (free breathing with sound) is emphasized, keeping the mind centered and the energy flowing.
  4. Building discipline and consistency: The Mysore practice encourages daily repetition, fostering self-discipline, patience, and deeper awareness of the body-mind connection.
  5. Freedom within structure: While following a fixed sequence, students have the freedom to progress at their own pace, deepening their practice gradually and with focus.

Beginners start with short sessions (about 20 minutes), gradually increasing as they progress.

This method ensures a safe and transformative practice, guided step by step by the teacher.
